Dear Neighbor:
My name is Fran Cohen. I am a proud Beverly Hills resident and I am running for a seat on the Beverly Hills City Council. My family and I have called Beverly Hills home since 2001 and like you we cherish the outstanding quality of life we have here. I truly believe that our schools, safety, cultural programs, parks and services are unmatched in any other city. However, as cities throughout California are faced with hard economic times it is important for our city government to demonstrate leadership, experience, and sound judgment. That is why I am running for Beverly Hills City Council.
My cross-disciplinary education and work experience in architecture, urban planning, business, and management have prepared me for today’s challenges (please see attached resume for details). I was a contract administrator and an urban planner for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. I am a member and Chair of the Architectural Commission of Beverly Hills. I am also an active member of the City of Beverly Hills Mayor’s Cabinet. I founded and am presently Chief Operating Officer of CD Land Corporation, electronic/music retail stores in the State of Indiana. When elected I will use my experience and skills to ensure that our city continues to move in the right direction.
Council members need to have a collective and innovative vision, supported by a financially sound and balanced budget. Competition with other cities should not be underestimated, especially when funding is scarce. When elected I will seek to create an Economic Commission. This commission will be comprised of Beverly Hills volunteer residents, appointed by the council, who have expertise in business, finance, and economics. The commission will report on the economic impacts of proposed projects going to the council, help the city plan for economic challenges, as well as help to identify sources of external funding at private, state, and federal levels.
I believe that I have the vision and capabilities to help take our city through these next crucial years so that our community can continue to enjoy the great quality of life that it expects and deserves. We can no longer afford 20th Century thinking to solve 21st Century challenges. I will work hard and use my knowledge and experience to bring together the people and skills necessary to ensure our city’s progress. I welcome your trust and support.
